The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday went into an emergency closed-door session over what is believed to be related to the ongoing #EndSARS protests across the country.

The #EndSARS protesters are believed to have been infiltrated by criminally minded people who have been causing chaos and burning down public properties using the guise of the protest.

The Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan on Tuesday, as soon as the lawmakers settled down for plenary, called for an emergency session, prompting the legislators to go into a closed-door session.

There had been earlier appeals by the National Assembly leadership for the youths to end the protests, leave the streets and allow the government attend to their demands.

However, it is also understood that the issues surrounding the confirmation of Aisha Dahir-Umar, as the substantive Director-General of the National Pension Commission, will also be considered during the closed session.

The Committee on Establishment and Public Service led by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, had last Thursday, screened and cleared Dahir-Umar and other nominees for the board of PenCom but some legislators are against her confirmation.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has declared a 24-hour curfew in the State starting from 4pm today, 20th October 2020.

This is coming after Suspected hoodlums disguising as #EndSARS protesters on Tuesday set the Apapa Iganmu Police Station in Lagos State on fire.

The governor in a post on Twitter noted that the protest against police brutality has degenerated into a monster that is threatening the well being of our society.
