Omicron: FG Reviews COVID-19 Protocol For International Travel

The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 foresees an escalation in the cases of COVID-19 in the country as a result of the violation and neglect of the preventive measures against the novel virus by citizens.

According to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, October 19, there might be another outrage in the cases of the dreaded disease soon as a result of the way citizens are trooping out on various streets across the states for the #Endsars protest.

Reacting to the mass protest in Lagos State from last week to this time, Mustapha alleged that several persons must have been infected with the virus due to total disregard to the preventive measures against the killer virus.

He said, “Truth be told, two weeks from today, if you get all the people that congregated at the Lekki toll plaza and run a test, you would establish for sure several infections.

“Any mass gathering that does not adhere to the non-pharmaceutical interventions that have been put in place, which include wearing of masks, social distancing, keeping personal hygiene and avoiding mass gatherings, they become super spreader events, whether you like it or not.

“So I can say with a definitive voice that two weeks from today, get everybody that congregated in those places, not only at the Lekki toll plaza, but also the Unity Fountain in Abuja but several other places, we would definitely be contending with an increase in infections, two weeks from now, and that’s why we must be extremely careful when we congregate.”

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday evening, 19th October 2020, confirmed 118 new cases of Coronavirus disease infection in Nigeria.

The new cases of COVID-19 infection were confirmed via a statement on the official Twitter handle of the health agency.
