Zamfara: PDP Chairman Dies After Peace Meeting

All winners of the Saturday, October 17 chairmanship election in Bauchi state have been issued their Certificate of Return by the state electoral commission, Naija News reports.

Naija News understands that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, claimed all 20 seats of both chairmen and deputies and were presented with their certificates by Dahiru Tata, Chairman, Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC yesterday.

Nigeria’s opposition party also won all the 323 councillorship seats in the local government area elections and were all sworn in at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Bauchi yesterday. Justice Hamidu Kunaza who represented the Bauchi State Chief Judge, Justice Rabi Umar, administered the oath of office and oath of allegiance to the council leaders during the swearing-in ceremony yesterday.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony on Sunday, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, encouraged the elected council leaders to avoid indolence and corrupt practices in the discharge of their duties. He urged them to ensure that bring the dividend of democracy which include good services, infrastructures to the people who elected them into office.

“What the people of Bauchi want is work, service, infrastructure. I assure you, we are going to give you autonomy to give you the little resources that you need,” Governor Mohammed noted.

He added, “You must work with us to free resources in your local councils. Ghost workers that are taking our money at the primary level, especially the primary health care, primary education and even local workers, must be freed.

“Don’t go and create your own ghost workers because that is the circle of corruption that we inherited. Everybody that becomes a chairman or councillor will have his own number of ghost workers that will bring money to him at home. I know by your pedigree, you will not do that.”

Meanwhile, Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi has denied the alleged plan to dump the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress.

Governor Umahi in his reaction to the report described the claim as ‘a product of a figment of imagination on the part of the carriers’.
