‘#EndSARS Protests May Be Hijacked By Hoodlums, Enemies’

The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called for an end to the nationwide #EndSARS protests to prevent hoodlums and enemies of Nigeria from hijacking it.

Naija News reports that protesting youths in Nigeria are agitating for the end to Police brutalization and extra judicial killings of Nigerians. The protesters have been on the streets for six days now, protesting the brutalities, humiliation, and extortion of Nigerians, especially the youths.

The protesters demanded an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a police unit under the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police Anthony Ogbizi, using a hashtag: #EndSARS.

On Sunday, October 11, 2020, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu disbanded SARS following a widespread protest from Nigerians worldwide.

However, since the announcement that SARS has been scrapped, the protesters have refused to leave the streets, which Sagay says might force the Federal Government to take drastic measures against the protesting youths.

Reacting, IPAC said Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians and nobody should be prevented or hindered from carrying out his or her lawful business due to elongated protests.

Dr Leonard Nzenwa, IPAC National Chairman, told journalists in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital that attacking public facilities, blocking airports and major roads and stopping innocent citizens from going about their business is no more protest. ​

The IPAC National Chairman said today, the economy is in recession, damaged and crumbling following the COVID – 19 pandemic global lockdown, adding that all hands should be on deck to revamp the economy and move the nation forward as the nation’s economy is private sector-driven. IPAC calls for restraint.

“If the struggle is to call for an end to SARS and SARS has been disbanded, and protests continue, there is a sinister motive.

“Council urges our vibrant, industrious youths to return home. We need no nore underserved death.

“Most Nigerians welcomed the call for scrapping the ubiquitous SARS including the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in its press release of Monday 12th October 2020.

“It is obvious that SARS has outlived its usefulness when its operatives became oppressors and killers of innocent citizens particularly our dynamic, resourceful youths.

“No nation will fold its hands and watch the gruesome killing of its people by law enforcement agents who are paid and sustained by tax payer’s funds. The anger in the land over the excesses of SARS operations was justified.

“IPAC is in the vanguard for sustainable democracy in Nigeria and will continue to partner with all stake holders to make Nigeria great again as the indisputable arsenal of democracy in Africa,” he said.
