The Ogun State Police Command on Monday arraigned three protesters arrested during the #ENDSARS demonstration for attempted murder.

Naija News reports that the protesters were arraigned before a magistrate court.

It was gathered that 30 protesters were arrested and detained at the state police headquarters in Eleweeran, Abeokuta, with the police releasing 27 later after intervention by the state governor.

Confirming the arraignment, Citizen Gavel, a non-governmental organisation, said the police were employing delay tactics to prolong the detention of protesters.

“Three of the Abeokuta protesters that were arrested on Friday were arraigned before a magistrate court today,” the group wrote on Twitter.

“Unfortunately, they were charged with “attempted murder” thus, we were unable to get them out on bail as the magistrate court does not have jurisdiction.

“We believe this is a ploy to continue detaining these protesters.”

Nigerian youth have been on a protest for six days demanding the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

SARS have become notorious for kidnapping, extorting, harassing and extra-judicial killings.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu on Sunday announced the immediate disbandment of the F-SARS.

The Police boss announced that the controversial police unit has been dissolved with immediate effect across the 36 states in the federation, and the Federal Capital Territory.

All officers and men previously deployed and serving in the unit are to be redeployed with immediate effect to other units while new plans to combat thieves and other criminal elements by the Police Force will be announced in due time.
