Operatives of the Nigeria Police on Sunday attacked peaceful #ENDSARS protesters at the Force Headquarters with hot water and tear gas.

The protesters were at the Force HQ to demand for the release of everyone arrested for participation in the protest nationwide despite the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The protest turned chaotic when dozens of well-armed policemen approached the protesters, shooting at them with hot water from a water cannon and tear gas as the protesters scampered for safety.

Some of the protesters were arrested, with a number of them sustaining injuries in the pandemonium.

The attack is following moments after the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu announced the immediate disbandment of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS).

Adamu made the announcement during a live address on Sunday, 11th October, 2020.

The Police boss announced that the controversial police unit has been dissolved with immediate effect across the 36 states in the federation, and the Federal Capital Territory.

All officers and men previously deployed and serving in the unit are to be redeployed with immediate effect to other units while new plans to combat thieves and other criminal elements by the Police Force will be announced in due time.
