Argentine professional footballer, Lionel Messi has said that winning the World Cup is now a dream that needed to be achieved in his football career.

Naija News understands that the 33-year-old player was only close to winning the world cup in 2014 but lost to Germany in the final.

Germany squad deprived the Argentine of fulfilling the dream with a 1-0 win in the game which was played on 13 July 2014 at the Maracana Stadium, Brazil. The Spanish footballer who plays as forward for FC Barcelona will take a break from the club to play for his home country in the 2022 World Cup game in Qatar, Naija News understands.

Messi who have won lots of trophies with Barcelona including the Ballon d’Or now have another chance to try to win the coveted world cup trophy.

Speaking about winning the world cup, Messi said, “The only goal I have now is to win the World Cup with the national team,” he has said.

Meanwhile, Messi in the recent time attempted to exit from Barcelona but the Catalans held firm the striker with a 700 million euro clause.

In another news, Ballon d’Or dream team XI first set of nominees has been confirmed. France Football, organizers of the annual Ballon d’Or award have been forced to cancel the 2020 Ballon d’Or due to the global COVID-19 outbreak.

However, in place of the usual award, they decided to unveil the Dream Team of 11 players at the end of this year.
