1. All 36 Governors Drag Buhari To Supreme Court

All thirty-six state governors have dragged President Muhammadu Buhari to the Supreme Court over his Presidential Executive Order No. 00-10 of 2020 signed in May 2020.

According to the governors, the executive order Buhari signed had pushed the Federal Government’s responsibility of funding both the capital and recurrent expenditures of the state high courts, Sharia Court of Appeal and the Customary Court of Appeal, to the state governments.

The governors are also arguing that except paying the salaries of judicial officers of the above-mentioned courts, Buhari had since 5th May 2009, abandoned his responsibility of funding the capital and recurrent expenditure of the respective courts.

2. Edo: Oyegun Reveals Why He Didn’t Campaign For APC

Former Edo State Governor, John Odigie-Oyegun, has revealed why he did not take party in the campaign movement of the All Progressives Congress in the just concluded Edo State elections.

Recall that the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Godwin Obaseki defeated the candidate of the APC, Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

The former National Chairman of APC while speaking with newsmen in Benin City, the state capital, said “I cannot support injustice” and will only do what his conscience doesn’t consider wrong.

“Let me put it this way: I am a man of conscience. I am a strong believer in justice and fair play. I am a strong believer that when the rules of an association you belong to have been so flagrantly disregarded, put aside, not complied with, then, you have to go back to your conscience to say, can I support what has happened? I cannot support injustice.”

3. FG Plans Distribution Of 2000 Buses To Alleviate Effect Of Subsidy Removal

The modalities for the disbursement of 2, 000 buses aimed at cushioning the effects of subsidy removal, has been set up by the Federal Government.

This was disclosed on Monday by the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Dr George Akume, while delivering his speech at the Inter-Ministerial Stakeholders meeting on Poverty Alleviation.

He said the initiative was a part of programme to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty, while adding that the initiative was in collaboration between his ministry, agriculture, and other government agencies.

He said the disbursement of the buses would be through cooperative societies of Nigeria, while recalling that it had been promised by President Muhammadu Buhari in his 2019 democracy speech, that he would m lift 100 Nigerians out of poverty through numerous governments` initiatives.

4. Nigerians Need To Join Me And Kill Corruption In The Country – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption in Nigeria, explaining that ‘If we do not kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria.’”

Buhari explained that his understanding of this fact, is why his administration remains committed to fighting all forms of corruption in Nigeria. He, therefore, called everyone to join him in the fight.

The President made the submission on Monday when he spoke virtually at the second national summit of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the inauguration of the National Ethics and Integrity Policy to mark the commission’s 20th anniversary and Nigeria’s 60th independence anniversary.

He explained that Nigeria must be corruption-free if the country will experience true development.

5. Amaechi: Wike Threatens To Resign As Rivers State Governor

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has alleged that the State has not benefited a single thing since Rotimi Amaechi became Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation.

The Governor who spoke confidently about his allegation, said he is ready to resign immediately if Amaechi can mention one thing he has contributed to Rivers State since he became Minister.

Naija News reports Amaechi is the predecessor of Wike but the two leaders do not see eye to eye about many issues in the state.

The two of them have been locked in a fresh round of verbal war after Amaechi over the weekend, during the burial of late former Justice of the Supreme Court, Adolphus Karibi-Whyte, blamed the Wike administration for what he claimed to be the deteriorating security situation in the state under his watch.

Wike in a direct response to the allegation, while speaking on Monday in an interview on AIT, said he would resign immediately as governor if Amaechi, his predecessor, could mention just one thing he has done for Rivers State in his ministerial capacity.

Wike also compared the developments he had brought to Rivers State in his then capacity as Minister of State and then currently as Governor.

6. Nigeria@60: Buhari Administration Has Been Unlucky – Oyegun

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Odigie Oyegun, on Monday, noted that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has not been lucky since it took over power.

According to Oyegun, things have become very tough and rough for the country due to the continuous dwindling resources, unemployment, terrorism, insecurity and other negative issues that has placed the nation’s growth almost at a standstill.

Oyegun while answering questions from newsmen on how far the country has developed in 60 years since independence, said he is not happy that Buhari has not been lucky since his administration.

He added that there have been issues affecting the progress of the country.

7. Biafra: IPOB Rejects 2023 Presidency, Makes Fresh Demand From Government

The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) has rejected the idea of dropping its agitation for an independent Biafra in favour of a 2023 Nigerian presidency.

The group in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful said what they want is freedom and it is beyond just a presidential term.

It, therefore, urged those urging them to drop their agitation to rather prevail on the federal government of Nigeria to give them what they want.

IPOB also declared that there is no going back on the October 1st sit-at-home order declared by its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, saying it’s a peaceful way of expressing their dissatisfaction with current happenings in Nigeria.

8. Buhari Writes Chinese President, Xi Jinping

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday forwarded a letter to the President of China, Xi Jinping, over the relationship between Nigeria and China.

Buhari noted that he is delighted that the bond of friendship between Nigeria and China has continued to strengthen.

The President wrote to felicitate with the Chinese leader on the occasion of the 71st Anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of China, and the country’s National Day.

The Nigeria President added that though COVID-19 pandemic has caused disruptions in the economy of the world, he is delighted that the relationship between the two countries still stands.

President Buhari appreciated the government of China for being supportive of the infrastructural revolution in Nigeria.

9. INEC Commence Migration To Electronic Voting

The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Monday, disclosed that it has commenced the replacement of manual voting with automated voting system.

The development was disclosed by the commission’s National Chairman, Yakubu Mahmood.

Mahmood noted that the electoral body has taken another decisive step towards the full automation of the electoral process.

He further stated that INEC has invited manufacturers of electronic voting machines around the world to practically demonstrate how the machines work, preparatory to full migration.

10. Sex Toy Shop: Court Awards N50 Million Against Senator Abbo For Assault

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting in Maitama, Abuja has awarded N50 million damages against the Senator representing Adamawa North, Senator Elisha Abbo, to be paid as compensation to Osimibibra Warmate, a female attendant at a sex-toy shop, whom he assaulted.

Justice Samira Bature gave the order in her judgment on the fundamental rights enforcement suit instituted by Warmate against the senator.

Nelson Onuoha, a member of the team of lawyers that filed a civil suit against the lawmaker, disclosed this to PREMIUM TIMES on Monday.

Abel Ozioko, a counsel to the senator, also confirmed the ruling.

It will be recalled that the lawmaker was caught on camera physically assaulting a woman in Abuja. In the video, Abbo was seen descending on the woman after she pleaded with him not to physically assault the shop owner whom the Senator had accused of insulting him. He said the shop owner called him a drunk.

Following the video which went viral, many Nigerians condemned the act, calling for the lawmaker’s arrest.
