Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has been cautioned by the Arewa Consultative Forum, over his statement on the country splitting up.

The northern socio-political group in a statement by its spokesman, Emmanuel Yawe, during an interview with The PUNCH acknowledged the fact that there were unhealthy cracks in the country, it, however, warned the VP against making comments that could stir up tension among citizens.

Naija News reports that Prof. Osinbajo on Sunday, September 27 at the Independence Day Interdenominational Church Service at the National Christian Centre in Abuja said there are cracks in Nigeria.

The VP who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha at the interdenominational church service to mark Nigeria’s 60th independence anniversary, said, “Our walls are not yet broken, but there are obvious cracks that could lead to a break, if not properly addressed.”

However, ACF said it is not disputing the fact that there are cracks in the country, but noted that the nation would overcome such.

The group again cautioned other Nigerian leaders to watch their words.

“The cracks are unhealthy, but we expect the Vice President to calm nerves and not make a pronouncement that will aggravate the situation,” ACF noted.

“The ACF is hopeful that Nigeria will overcome its current travails as it did in the past and even overcame a fratricidal war to break up Nigeria. To do this, Nigerian leaders like Osinbanjo should watch their words,” Yawe added.

The ACF cautioned Osinbajo against comments capable of creating further tension in the land.

Meanwhile, a video said to be from a recent attack on Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno state, by Boko Haram insurgents has been described as fake.

Subsequent findings revealed that the video is from an actual accident scene which occurred in Kenya some months ago.
