The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has asked members to join in the nationwide strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Naija News reports that the NLC had declared that the strike will hold on Monday September 28 over the increase in fuel price and electricity tariff.

In a statement signed by Chukuemeke Aguonye, its acting general secretary, the union asked members to join if the government fails to revert to the old pump price of petrol and electricity tariff.

“This is to inform you that the Central Working (CWC) of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) met on 16 September, 2020, and deliberated on the recent increases in the pump price of petroleum product and electricity tariff, amongst other issues, and decided to mobilise all workers in Nigeria for indefinite strike action,” Aguonye said.

“The strike action commences on Monday, 28 September, 2020, if the government fails to revert to the old pump price and electricity tariff.

“As an affiliate to the NLC, NULGE members are expected to comply and participate fully in the action.

“In view of the above, therefore, I have the directive to request you to commence mass mobilisation of all members in your state chapters towards this all-important strike action should government fail to meet the demand of the organised labour.”
