Some gunmen reportedly supplying illicit weapons to sinister groups in Plateau State has killed an officer of the Department of State Services.
According to a report monitored by Naija News on Sahara Reporters, one Barrister Muktar Modibbo, an agent of the DSS operatives died of gunfire by the armed men on Thursday, September 24.
It was reported that the gunrunning group during a raid on their hideout in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau today, shot at the Modibbo and his colleagues but others narrowly escaped death.
According to a top security source within the DSS who disclosed details of the incident to newsmen noted that the deadly groups have been linked with different violence attacks within the state, adding that they were initially traced to Qu’anpan LGA by the secret police but the operation was aborted after it was discovered that intel had leaked to the gunrunners, who then swiftly changed location.
The source revealed further that after receiving new intelligence that the arms smugglers were in Shendam, a team of the security agency was constituted to burst their operation. “The operation was, however, met with heavy shooting from the criminals, who were well equipped with sophisticated firearms and seemed to have had prior intel about the raid,” the source noted.
Moddibo, however, became a victim in the operation as the gun-running men fired a gun at him, resulting in his sudden death.
Naija News learnt that the deceased before his death worked with the legal department of the security outfit. “They (gunrunners) also took his weapon, a Galil Automatic Rifle, and a few other things,” the source added.
Meanwhile, suspected bandits have abducted Alhaji Salisu Ali Sukuntuni, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rimaye town under Kankia LGA of Katsina State, Naija News reports.
