Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has denied releasing any statement on the outcome of the September 19 governorship election in Edo State.

Tinubu’s media aide, Tunde Rahman in a statement on Monday, urged members of the public to disregard a statement making rounds on social media credited to his principal on the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election.

Rahman stated that his boss is not known to rush to issue statements and at the right time, Asiwaju will speak on the Edo governorship election.

He said: “Please disregard any post to the effect that His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has spoken on the Edo elections. The said statement is a fake one. It’s the antic of social media merchants of fake and unsubstantiated statements. It did not come from Asiwaju. Those who know Asiwaju would recall that it’s not in his character to rush to issue statements. At the appropriate time, His Excellency Asiwaju will speak on the Edo election. Thank you.”

Naija News recalls few days to the governorship election in Edo State, Asiwaju Tinubu had appealed to the people of the state to vote against the incumbent Governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Godwin Obaseki.

In the video released, Tinubu said that the call had become imperative after several undemocratic actions taken by the Governor during his first tenure, among which he alleged, his refusal to obey rule of law despite the voice of reasonings from politicians and other stakeholders on the issue of 14 lawmakers he prevented from being sworn into the state House of Assembly.

However, as earlier reported by Naija News, Obaseki polled 307,955 votes to defeat all other candidates including Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 223,619 votes in the official results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh declared Obaseki winner of the election.
