What Edo Elections Taught Nigerians – Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar
Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.), a former Head of State and chairman of the National Peace Committee, has congratulated the Edo State people for the peaceful conduct of their elections.
He went on to congratulate governor Godwin Obaseki who was declared winner of the election, while he appealed to Nigerians across the board to emulate the Edo State example.
According to him, Nigerians were grateful for the exemplary sacrifice, decorum and courage that the Edo state people displayed in order to allay earlier fears that preceded the elections.
Abdulsalami in a statement on the Edo 2020 governorship election on Sunday personally signed by him thanked the Oba of Benin, His Royal Highness, Omonoba Ewuare II, who teamed up with our the NPC to deploy his moral authority in the appeal for peace.
Also, he congratulated the contestants, Godwin Obaseki, the winner, Pastor Ize-Iyamu and others who sought the governor’s office.
Abdulsalami told Obaseki to repay the people of Edo State with all the ingredients of good governance, justice equity.
The statement reads, “Your Excellency, Governor, it is our prayer that you will repay the good people of Edo State with all the ingredients of good governance, justice equity. Once, again, accept our congratulations and may God guide you.”
