Edo2020: Edo State Governorship Election Results

Results from the keenly contested 2020 Edo State Governorship election have started trickling in.

Naija News reports that a total of 14 parties took part in the Edo election.

The election was majorly contested between the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and the incumbent governor of the State, Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Reports of violence, failures of card readers and other complaints from parties and election observers have dominated the media space.

The Edo election was held in 18 local governments, 192 Wards, and 2,627 polling units.

Ovia South-West LGA

APC: 10,636

PDP: 12,659

Total valid votes: 23,741

Rejected votes: 743

Orhiaonmwon LGA

Godwin Obaseki of PDP has won Orhiaonmwon LGA, the home of his challenger Osagie Ize-Iyamu of APC.

The results are follows

PDP – 13,445

Results of 17 LGAs have been declared, remaining one to end the collation exercise ongoing in Benin City.

PDP has recorded 302,017 ahead of APC’s 212,983.

A ward, with 7778 registered voters, was cancelled due to violence “to the extent an INEC official was shot and lying critically at the hospital ” the returning officer reported. He also said a PU was cancelled due to over voting.
