The Nigeria Police Service Commission has issued a stern warning to electorates and police officers deployed to Edo State ahead of September 19 governorship election in the state.

In a statement on Thursday, September 17 by the Head, Press and Public Relations of the commission, Mr Ikechukwu Ani, all police personnel are cautioned to stay away from every act of misconduct during the Saturday polls.

Ani who reassured that the Police Commission had deployed a special team to monitor the conduct of police personnel during the exercise, warned the operatives on electoral duty in the state to operate within the ambits of the law and rules of engagement.

According to him, infractions by any officer against the rules guiding election policing would be investigated with appropriate sanctions meted out. He again stated that the commission had received assurances from the police authorities that adequate security arrangements had been made to ensure a hitch-free and peaceful poll.

Ani urged residents to call the commission on 07034072677, 08050517678 or 08052265260 for complaints and commendation on the conduct of police during the election.
