Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, has been approved by the Benue State Government for the resumption of all schools in the state.

Prof. Dennis Ityavyar, Commissioner for Education  made this known to newsmen in Makurdi.

According to him, both public and private primary, secondary and tertiary institutions would resume on that day, adding that the resumption was for the first term of the 2020/2021 academic session.

He added that the third term for other categories of pupils and students except JSS 3 and SSS 3 had been cancelled, including the payment of school fees.

He said “Let me emphasise on the issue of school fees so there is no confusion because if the third term is cancelled, school fees for the term are also cancelled.

“But in the case of JSS 3 and SSS 3, parents are expected to pay their third term fees. However, those who have not done the third term, they don’t need to pay fees and this applies to private and public schools,’’

Ityavyar noted that stakeholders in the education sector have made the collective decision that all tertiary institutions be fumigated and COVID-19 protocols strictly observed.

He said parents must also provide face masks and hand sanitizer, while asking school authorities to provide handwashing facilities and monitor compliance with social distancing in terms of sitting arrangement.
