Kano Building Collapse Claims 2, 8 Rescued

It has been reported of a building collapse at Gwammaja ‘Yan Kosai area in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.

According to the report confirmed to newsmen on Tuesday, September 15 by the state Fire Service, the incident had claimed two lives from the 10 residents trapped in the collapsed structure.

Giving details on the incident today in Kano, Malam Saidu Muhammed, spokesperson of the State Fire Service, revealed that they get informed of the incident from a distress call received at about 1:30 a.m on Tuesday from one Malam Abdullahi Muhammad.

“On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene at about 1:37 a.m,” said Muhammed.

He continued, “we discovered that the house, a one-storeyed building, collapsed on 10 dwellers and that they were covered by broken blocks and sand.”

Muhammed revealed further that the service was able to successfully rescue 8 people alive out of the 10 persons trapped in the building. He noted that the rescued victims have been taken to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano for proper medical attention, while the body of the two persons found dead have also been evacuated.

He admonished Kano state citizens to be conscious of their environment and to avoid living in dilapidated buildings.

This is coming two days after Naija News reported that a building collapse in Okwe, Oshimili South Local Government Area has left a man dead while four others sustained injuries.

It was gathered that the construction of the one- storey building located on Holy Mary road behind the Nigeria Police Officers Mess in the suburbs of Asaba commenced about two weeks ago.
