The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressive Congress (APC) of being behind the recent fire at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Akure, Ondo State.

Recall that fire had gutted the ICT section of the commission where 5141 units of card readers meant for the October 10 governorship election were burnt and destroyed.

In a statement on Sunday the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan said the APC and its agents should be held responsible for the fire.

According to the main opposition party, it was part of the plot to destroy INEC sensitive equipment so as to frustrate the conduct of credible, free and fair governorship election in the state.

“APC has resorted to violence and underhand tactics, particularly after realizing that there is no way its candidate, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who has failed the people can win in a transparent, free and fair election on October 10,” Ologbodiyan said.

“The attack on the Ondo INEC office came after former APC chairman in the state, Isaac Kekemeke, boasted that the party will use violence to rig the October 10 election and that Governor Akeredolu was behind the violent political attacks rocking the state.

“Kekemeke had also boasted of APC’s plans to import armed thugs and militants to unleash mayhem in the state. It is therefore not by happenstance that the fire occurred in no other place than the facility where sensitive materials such as card readers were stored.”

The PDP noted that security agents was yet to invite and question Isaac Kekemeke over his statement.

The party demanded that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Kekemeke and other APC leaders in Ondo be grilled and asked to sign an undertaking of the election.

PDP urged the people of Ondo State to remain at alert and resist the APC in their plot to disrupt a credible exercise on October 10.
