1. Presidency Reacts To Story Of Buhari, Osinbajo ‘Disagreement’ On NDPHC Boss Appointment

Mr. Laolu Akande, spokesperson to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has reacted to the story of a disagreement between his principal and President Muhammadu Buhari over the appointment of Chiedu Ugbo as the managing director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC).

Some earlier reports had it that Buhari and Osinbajo were not on the same page as regards the tenure renewal for Ugbo as the NDPHC boss.

Specifically, the report noted that the President sought his Vice President’s opinion on the position ahead of the expiration of Ugbo’s tenure, but his name was not on the vice-president’s shortlist, however Buhari still renewed Ugbo’s appointment.

However, reacting to the story after it went viral on several platforms, Osinbajo’s spokesperson in a tweet on Tuesday evening, denied the report and labelled it as fake.

2. Finally, Wanted Benue Gang Leader Gana Surrenders

Terwase Agwaza alias Gana, a wanted criminal gang leader in Benue state, northcentral Nigeria, has surrendered.

Naija News understands that the wanted Benue Gang leader surrendered for the amnesty programme in Katsina-Ala township stadium in Katsina-Ala local government area of Benue North senatorial zone on Tuesday, September 8.

Before he surrendered, a bounty of N10m had been placed on the gang leader declared wanted years ago.

This is the second time he is giving up himself after surrendering catchment of arms and ammunition to Benue amnesty programme of Governor Samuel Ortom, which he granted to restive youths in his first tenure.

3. Fuel, Electricity Price Hike Bad For Nigerians – PDP Tells Buhari

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to reverse the increase in fuel price and electricity tariff.

In a statement on Tuesday by the spokesman for the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party stated that there is no way Nigerians can survive the latest hike in the cost of fuel and electricity.

The PDP expressed regrets that the increase was coming at a time of crippling poverty foisted on the nation by the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

The party cautioned President Muhammadu Buhari that the latest price hike will worsen the scary situation in the last five years, where some Nigerians are resorting to suicide, slavery mission abroad as well as selling their children as survival options.

4. COVID-19: We Have Spent N20b On Health Workers’ Hazard Allowance In 3 Months – FG

The federal government of Nigeria has revealed that N20 billion has been spent on the payment of hazard and inducement allowance to medical and health workers in 3 months.

The government noted that the payments, which are for April, May and June 2020 were all duly paid to the frontline health workers despite the reducing resources available to the government during the COVID-19 period.

The Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, said this in a statement on Tuesday while further appealing to the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to suspend its ongoing strike.

Naija News recalls the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) on Monday commenced a nationwide strike over the federal government’s failure to meet their demands.

However, Ngige on Tuesday, noted that six out of the eight demands listed by the body have already been addressed by the government and urged the striking doctors to return to work.

5. Fuel, Power Tariff: Nigerian Governors To Meet Buhari

The Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF, is set to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari over the increment in pump price of fuel and power tariff.

Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru, while speaking with newsmen on Tuesday noted that the nation’s governors are highly disturbed over the uproar that trails the increase.

“We are soon going to meet with President Buhari over the pump price of fuel and power tariff rise and God willing, something good is coming out from the meeting.”

Badaru said, “I don’t want to preempt our proposed meetings with President Buhari over this issue, but I’m assuring you that we are going to mediate for the benefits of Nigerians,” he added.

6. Kaduna: It Costs N400k To Treat A COVID-19 Patient – Says Gov El-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has urged residents in the state to continue to adhere strictly to COVID-19 guidelines in order to curb the spread of the dreaded disease in the state.

Speaking on Monday, September 7 during an executive committee meeting with traditional rulers in the state, the governor noted that it cost about N400, 000 to treat one COVID-19 patient.

According to El-Rufai in the meeting which was chaired by Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, the huge sum is as a result of the increasing cost of drugs, feeding, and personal protective equipment (PPE) for doctors taking care of infected patients.

The governor noted that the government could not fold its arms and ask patients to pay the bills as most people would not be able to pay for the huge sum. El-Rufai said doing so could lead to further spread of the pandemic in the state.

7. Atiku Questions FG On Fuel Hike, Says Why It Should Have Dropped

Following the recent hike in fuel and electricity tariff prices by the Federal Government, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has posed a question on the reported deregulation of the petroleum sector.

The Federal government had claimed that they reached the decision on the recent increase in fuel pump prices to effect the deregulation of the petroleum sector and suspension of subsidies on petroleum products.

However, reacting in a tweet on Tuesday, Atiku queried why fuel price isn’t dropping since the government has embarked on deregulation.

He said only fuel prices in US and Europe are far lower than they were in 2019.

He tweeted ‘I am a businessman. I look at things from an economic perspective. Questions beg answers. The price of crude is down from where it was in 2019. In the US and Europe, fuel prices are far lower than they were in 2019. If we truly deregulated, shouldn’t fuel price have dropped?”

8. Buhari, Osinbajo Attend Ministerial Performance Review Retreat In Abuja

President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and other senior government officials, on Tuesday, attended Day 2 of the First Year Ministerial Performance Review Retreat at the State House, Abuja.

The programme kicked off on Monday with Osinbajo declaring it open on behalf of Buhari who was in Niger for an ECOWAS summit.

In his address on Monday, the president said the retreat had been designed to review the performance of each minister in delivering the priority mandates, including programmes and projects assigned to them upon their appointment in 2019.

9. No Going Back On Water Control Bill – House of Reps Member

Hon. Sada Soli, a member of the House of Representatives, has insisted that lawmakers will pass the controversial bill seeking to regulate water resources in Nigeria.

The bill seeks to bring all water resources – both surface and underground — and the banks of the water sources under the control of the federal government.

Naija News reports that Section 13 of the Bill, states thus: “In implementing the principles under subsection (2) of this section, the institutions established under this Act shall promote integrated water resources management and the coordinated management of land and water resources, surface water and groundwater resources, river basins and adjacent marine and coastal environment and upstream and downstream interests.”

President Muhammadu Buhari had reintroduced the bill to the National Assembly after failing to get it passed by the Bukola Saraki-led NASS.

10. After Five Months, Police Charge Kogi Commissioner For Rape

The Commissioner for Water Resources in Kogi State, Abdulmumuni Danga, has been charged to court by the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly assaulting and raping a lady identified as Elizabeth over a Facebook post.

The development is coming after five months after the incident took place and three months after the commissioner was first invited for questioning by the police.

The Kogi State commissioner was charged on a seven-count charge including rape to brutality, coercion and torture.

Danga is charged alongside one Success Omadivi and they are to be arraigned at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Judicial Division.
