The Presidency has accused main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) selling petrol at a higher rate whent they were in power.

Naija News recalls that the Federal Government last Wednesday through the Petroleum Pricing Marketing Company (PPMC) increased the ex-depot price of petrol from N138 to NN151.56 per litre, triggering marketers to increase pump price from N148 to N162 per litre.

Similarly, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had approved an increase in electricity tariff with effect from September 1, 2020.

A NERC document showed that electricity customers, except those receiving less than 12 hours of supply, would have to pay more for electricity starting from September 1, 2020.

The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) had said the government did nothing to help citizens cope with the devastating economic impact of the pandemic.

Also the PDP on its part, described the increment as “callous, cruel and punishing”, and demanded that it should be reversed to avert “a national crisis.”

Reacting in a post on Twitter, Garba Shehu, the spokesman of President Muhammadu Buhari, accused the main opposition party of deceit.

“Don’t allow the PDP to deceive you. Amidst acute shortages, they sold petrol at N600 per litre on Easter Sunday in 2013 (See Punch published on that day),” he tweeted alongside a newspaper publication.
