Garba Shehu, the Official Spokesperson to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, has been been ‘blasted’ and mocked by Nigerians for accusing the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of selling petrol at N600 per litre in 2013.

Naija News understands that the President’s SSA on Media & Publicity on Wednesday, September 9 in a post on his verified Twitter account warned Nigerians against allowing the opposition party to deceive them, noting that PDP had once sold petrol at N600 per litre.

Shehu stated this sharing a publication by The PUNCH to justify his claims, Naija News understands.

However, Nigerians with ‘big eye’ condemned the presidential aide after zooming the image he shared to justify his claims. Scanning through the shared publication, the date on the image was revealed as Monday, May 25, 2015.

Reacting to Shehu’s tweet which has been described by some netizens as ‘fake news’, a Twitter user with the username [@EkaAbasiama] who confirmed the date as revealed by one [@ayemojubar] tweeted; “Yes, you are right. The Senator Chukwumerije in another caption on the paper, died on April 19th, 2015. So Detective Aylojubar is right. Chai! See how an old man is lying so shamelessly on social media. Tomorrow, he would come and speak against fake news. Fake failed govt.”

Some of the netizens advised Shehu to focus on the present administration under which he is serving and leave PDP alone.

Tosin Olugbenga, another user of the bird app noted in his reaction that under the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, fuel was sold for ₦600 in December 2017 and recently in November 2019.

He tweeted;

Again another netizen tweeted; “Hi @GarShehu if u have brains, u will not talk now. Because price of crude oil is forecast to go up and if truly our oil sales is deregulated and not your usual government lies then the price of fuel will realistically sell for that N600 range because of exchange rate of ₦”
