Manchester United have signed teenage sensation Alejandro Garnacho from Atletico Madrid, beating the likes of Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund to the wonderkid’s signature.

The 16-year-old is a striker and signs a five-year deal at Old Trafford, where he hopes to follow in the footsteps of his footballing idol Cristiano Ronaldo.

Spanish publication Marca report that Atletico were very keen to keep hold of one of their most promising youngsters and have not made an exit easy for the teenager.

The La Liga side will receive some compensation for his move to England.

Garnacho will initially work with academy manager Nicky Butt, although he has already shown he can compete above his age range, by playing for the Atletico Madrid Under-19 side, despite only turning 16 in July.

There is a ‘non-aggression pact’ between Atletico and Real Madrid which made a move across the Spanish capital almost impossible, while the lure of treading the same path as Ronaldo proved to make the difference for Garnacho.

Manchester United have been making a concerted effort to bring in young players from Spain and Garnacho is the third to arrive at the club this summer.

Marc Jurado has arrived from Barcelona and Alvaro Carreras has joined from Real Madrid, the former a promising right back and the latter playing on the left of defence.
