Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has confirmed that military operatives have arrested Benue most wanted criminal, Terwase Akwaza famously known as Gana.

Ortom confirmed this while speaking to newsmen after receiving repentant militias from Logo, Katsina Alla and Logo local government areas of the state.

He said Gana and other repentant militias were on their way to Makurdi to surrender themselves when they were intercepted close to Yandev roundabout in the Gboko LGA.

“It was around 4pm when we were waiting for the repentant militias that I received a call that Gana and others have been arrested close to Yandev roundabout in Gboko by soldiers,” Ortom said.

“Many of the repentant militias had weapons in which they were bringing to surrender to us.

“The process of the amnesty programme was known to the security operatives, so I don’t know why they have to be arrested.

“Immediately I got the information, I contacted the Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, General Yekini, who told me that they were carrying out operation and promised to get back to me; so am still waiting for him.

“The people willingly surrendered themselves to us, I believe that they will adequately be protected,” Governor Ortom said.

Meanwhile, Naija News reports that Terwase Agwaza alias Gana, was on Tuesday killed by security forces.

It was gathered that the murder of the Wanted Benue Gang leader came after he surrendered for the amnesty programme in Katsina-Ala township stadium in Katsina-Ala local government area of Benue North senatorial zone on Tuesday, September 8.

Before he surrendered, a bounty of N10m had been placed on the gang leader declared wanted years ago. That was the second time he was giving up himself after surrendering catchment of arms and ammunition to Benue amnesty programme of Governor Samuel Ortom, which he granted to restive youths in his first tenure.

While the military said Gana was killed in a gun battle with operatives, Governor Ortom alleged that the wanted Benue gang leader was seized from a convoy of repentant militants on its way to the Government House for a peace meeting.

Giving an update on the development, Brigadier General Maude Ali Gadzama, the Commander of the Four Special Forces command, Doma local government area, confirmed Gana was gunned down in a battle with operatives.
