Npower: Buhari Will Lift 100million Nigerians Out Of Poverty – Minister

Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, Nigeria’s Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari remains committed to his vision of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years.

The Minister reiterated this while speaking on Thursday during an interactive meeting with the focal persons of the Federal Government’s National Social Investment Programmes, also known as the NSIP’s.

Naija News reports that the Federal Government of Nigeria established the National Social Investments Programmes (NSIP) in 2016, to tackle poverty and hunger across the country.

Programmes under the NSIP include the Npower programme, the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme, Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) and the Home Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSF).

Farouq on Thursday during her meeting with NSIP focal persons noted that, “There is no doubt that the Social Investment Programmes are critical components of the present Administration’s activities and are vehicles through which His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari‘s vision of lifting 100 million people out of poverty in 10 years will be achieved.”

She explained further that the mandate of lifting Nigerians out of poverty and catering for the less privileged in the society remains the target of her ministry.

“These programmes are also very important to the fulfillment of the vision and mandate of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development.”

“The Ministry by its mandate is positioned to cater to the needs of those affected by disasters, humanitarian crisis, social challenges, and all people of concern who are often at the bottom of the economic and social pyramid.”

She, therefore, appealed to all relevant stakeholders to join her in achieving the mandate given to her Ministry by the President.

“Since my assumption of office, I have remained focused on ensuring the sustainability and improvement of the programmes bearing in mind the high impact value they have to teem Nigerians whose lives have been significantly disrupted as a result of the present humanitarian and economic situation in the country.

“It is against this background that I urge every one of you to continue to give in your best to ensure the lives of those we are called to serve are made better.”
