1. Again, Presidency Declares There Is No COVID-19 In Aso Rock

The presidency on Wednesday, warned Nigerians against the barrage of fake news making rounds across various social media and other platforms.

Particularly, the presidency in a statement released by Garba Shehu, official spokesperson of President Muhammadu Buhari denied reports of any presidential aide testing positive to COVID-19.

The declaration follows an earlier report on Tuesday which claimed that Sarki Abba, President Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs had tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Naija News previously reported that Bashir Ahmad, a presidential media aide had dismissed the report as fake and shared a picture of Abba in his office.

The Presidency again via a statement from Garba Shehu on Wednesday, described the report as fake and false. It urged Nigerians to ignore agents of fake news.

2. President Buhari Declares Nov 1 As National Youth Day

November 1 has been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari as National Youth Day.

The development was disclosed on Wednesday afternoon, September 2 in a tweet by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare.

Dare revealed that President Buhari approved the date during the Federal Executive Council meeting, noting that November 1 is now set aside yearly as National Youth Day.

3. Government Increases Petrol Price To N151.56 Per Litre

The federal government of Nigeria through the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC) has increased the price of petrol in the country.

According to a memo from the PPMC on Wednesday, which was signed by D.O Abalaka, the new price of petrol in Nigeria is N151.56 per litre.

The new price regime takes effect from September 2, 2020, the statement noted.

4. 2023: Why I’ll Support Igbo Presidency – Nabba

Ghali Nabba, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives on Tuesday revealed that he will support an Igbo President if the South-East can select the best candidate ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The former Speaker started this when he received the National Political Equity Movement, NPEM, led by its convener, Chibuzor Okereke at his residence in Abuja on Tuesday.

He called on the region to select their best candidates and present them for the forthcoming general election.

Nabba further stated that South-East has enough competent hands that can run the affairs of Nigeria.

5. APC Expels Zamfara Factional Chairman, Sirajo Garba

The factional chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Zamfara State, Sirajo Garba has been expelled by the national leadership of the party for flouting the directive of the National Executive Committee.

According to a letter dated August 26, 2020, signed by the APC National Secretary, Sen. John J. Akpanudoedehe, and addressed to the Zamfara State chairman of the party, the expulsion of Garba is with immediate effect.

APC in the letter noted that Garba ignored the directive that any party member should not institute any court action against the party and to withdraw their cases in court to explore the internal conflict resolution mechanisms of the party.

6. Buhari Gives Gbajabiamila Presidential Approval To Visit Ghana

President Muhammadu has given his blessing to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila to visit Ghana on a ‘legislative diplomacy’ visit over hostilities against Nigerians living in the West African country.

Gbajabiamila who made this known to State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday.

According to the Speaker, he got the blessing from President Buhari to meet with his Ghanaian counterpart to find a solution to the problem.

Gbajabiamila on Wednesday arrived in Ghana for negotiations with his counterpart in the country.

7. 2020 CAMA Law: You Have Nothing To Fear, Presidency Assures Churches

Religious organizations in the country, particularly, the churches have been assured that the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 isn’t targeted at them.

The Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and former National Assembly Presidential Liaison Officer, Senator Ita Enang gave the assurance on Tuesday in Abuja when he met with the leadership of the Christain Association of Nigeria (CAN) where he received the position paper of CAN on the law.

The Christian umbrella body presented its position during a brief ceremony held at the CAN secretariat in Abuja where Enang represented President Muhammadu Buhari.

Enang in his speech at the event explained that the CAMA 2020 was not targeted at churches, mosques, and other religious bodies.

He explained that the controversies generated by the law so far is as a result of misinformation and falsehood by persons who don’t really understand the content of the law.

8. Edo 2020: Obaseki And Ize-Iyamu Meet With Oba Of Benin

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II on Wednesday, held a meeting with Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu ahead of the governorship election in Edo State.

Incumbent Governor Obaseki is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while Ize-Iyamu is flying the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 19 governorship polls.

Both candidates are frontrunners in the upcoming polls.

The meeting with the traditional ruler is believed to be in connection with how to curb the rising cases of violence among political opponents in the build-up to the election.

As previously reported by Naija News, Oba Ewuare had promised the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who visited him in Benin last week that he would meet with the two candidates to find a solution to the increasing political violence in the state.

9. Osun Govt. Directs Schools To Drop Aregbesola’s Names, Reformation

Principals and heads of public elementary schools in Osun State have been directed to revert to the old names used before the reclassification under Rauf Aregbesola, a former governor of the state, in 2013.

The Osun state government, through the ministry of education, coordinating director, Taiwo Adeagbo, gave the directive in a circular addressed to principals, headteachers of elementary schools, inspectors of education and zonal inspectors of education.

Officials were directed by the officials to comply with the directive immediately.

10. T.B Joshua Advises Messi Against Leaving Barcelona

Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi has been advised by Prophet T.B Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, against leaving Camp Nou amid interest from Manchester City.

The La Liga giant is battling to keep the Argentina international as he pushes for a free transfer to reunite with his former manager, Pep Guardiola, at Man City.

Messi’s release clause will have to be paid if he is to leave Barcelona this summer.

The 33-year-old wanted to leave the club as a free agent during the summer transfer window.

Reacting to the development, TB Joshua, in a tweet via his official Twitter handle, urged Messi not to leave the Barcelona bitter and offended.

He tweeted on Wednesday afternoon: “It is not good advice for Lionel Messi to leave Barcelona bitter and offended. It is impossible to establish a healthy relationship with a person who left a previous relationship bitter and offended. This is my candid advice to Messi. History is our boss.”
