The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Thursday, August 20 stirred reactions among citizens on social media after it announced via its official Twitter handle [@NigBarAssoc] the withdrawal of Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai from speaking at its forthcoming virtual conference.

Naija News understands that the decision follows the outcry from some lawyers and Nigerians who noted that violent killings and clashes in Southern Kaduna, as well as El-Rufai’s poor human right record, make him ineligible to be a speaker at the conference.

NBA, however, on Thursday made some Nigerians proud after it tweeted that the governor would no longer speak at the event as earlier announced, adding that El-Rufai has been notified of its decision.

The tweet reads, “The National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association at its ongoing meeting resolves that the invitation to the Kaduna State Governor, H.E. Nasir El-Rufai, by the 2020 Annual General Conference Planning committee be withdrawn and decision communicated to the Governor.”

Reacting to NBA’s announcement today, Nigerians on social on the bird app, expressed their happiness with the exclusion of Governor El-Rufai’s name from the meeting.

A Twitter user identified with the username [@Oluomoofderby] in his reaction tweeted, “This is good news for us all. Nigerian Bar Association showing us all the right way forward in Nigeria.”

He tweeted, “This style of positive aggression to evil should be adopted in all sphere… Let’s build the Nigeria of our dream… The pace has been set!”.
