Illegal Detention: Court Orders Substituted Service On AGF, DSS And CG Of Correctional Service

Four Fulani herdsmen have been charged with criminal conspiracy, kidnapping and acts of terrorism in Benue State.

The suspects, Haruna Haruna, Hassan Abubakar, Husseini Musa and Mohammed Abubakar were reportedly paraded before a Chief Magistrate Court in Makurdi on Tuesday, August 18 for allegedly responsible for the kidnap of one Charles Ochapa, a residence of the state.

Speaking at the court session, the prosecution counsel, Hyacinth Gbakor told the court that the case was transferred from the Area Command Headquarters, Otukpo for further investigation.

According to Gbakor, “a team of policemen acting on a tip-off, on July 8, arrested the defendants for unleashing mayhem on the people of Benue South.”

The prosecution counsel alleged that the defendants were responsible for the kidnap of Ochapa, a resident of Ado Local Government Area on May 16, and collected a ransom of N400,000 as a ransom.

He noted that the police command was able to recover a sum of N300,000 from the suspects after they had confessed to the crime.

However, in his ruling, Chief Magistrate Isaac Ajim granted the defendants bail, even though they all pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Ajim adjourned the matter until October 12, 2020 for further mention, Naija News learnt.
