JUST IN: Ogun Govt Suspends Weekend Lockdown, Reopens Worship Centres

Governor Dapo Abiodun led government of Ogun State has announced the suspension of weekend lockdown in the state.

The governor made the announcement in a statement released on Friday, August 14 while giving an update on the government’s effort in ending the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

According to Abiodun in the statement, the decision was taken after thorough deliberation, consideration and resolution with stakeholders in the state. He added that part of the reason why the government lifted the weekend lockdown was to allow for resumption of worship centres.

Governor Abiodun, however, noted that in a bid to adhere strictly to already laid down COVID-19 rules and regulation, no social gatherings must exceed 20 people at any place.

He again warned that wearing of face masks in the public is compulsory and failure to do so is punishable.

“Let me say that now that our worship centres are open for activities, the restrictions on weekends are lifted, but the limitation on social gatherings not exceeding 20 people at any place at the same time is still very much in force,” he said.

“Observation of dusk-to-dawn curfew as directed by the Presidential Task Force i.e. between 10.00pm and 4.00am daily. Only one passenger is still allowed for motorcycles and two passengers only for tricycles. Taxi cabs and buses still have 60% limitation on their carrying capacity and non-adherence attracts sanction.

“The COVID-19 Task Force in markets must continue to ensure physical distancing, availability of handwashing facilities, and use of gloves and facemasks for traders. Decontamination will continue in our markets and other public places.”

Abiodun states further that the government will review when to reopen Gyms, arcades, swimming pools, barber-shops, spas, beauty Salons, public parks and golf courses in the state, adding that event centres, bars, casinos, cinemas, and night clubs are still under lockdown.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has recorded three hundred and seventy-three (373) news cases of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).
