Mamman Daura, President Muhammadu Buhari’s nephew has been condemned for his position on zoning ahead of the 2023 general election.

Speaking in a recent interview with the Tribune, Secretary-General, Yoruba Elders Council (YCE), Kunle Olajide faulted Daura’s claim on electing ‘most competent persons’ into leadership and not ‘someone who came from somewhere’.

Naija News understands that Daura had earlier stated during an interview with the BBC that the “presidency should be for the most competent and not for someone who comes from somewhere.” A statement which received condemnation by a large number of Nigerians.

Reacting also to Daura’s statement, the presidency noted that the 80-year-old only aired his personal opinion.

On his part, Kunle Olajide said that he was amazed at Daura’s declaration on the live interview.

“He said that the 2023 presidency should not be about rotation but by competence. I laughed. This present administration has done more harm to the unity of this country in the last five years because of these lopsided appointments and the apparent insensitivity to the cries of the people for it to adhere to the federal character,” the Yoruba leader noted.

According to Olajide, every part of the country is now more ethnic-conscious, “in such a situation, the only binding force that remains is the rotation of the presidency between the North and the South. Otherwise, there is nothing there to unite us from what this administration has done. Absolutely nothing!” he noted.

“Rotation must continue until a time the nation is restructured to achieve true federalism and to recognise ethic diversities,” the YCE leader added.

Meanwhile, the former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has condemned the Department of State Services, for inviting the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mailafia Obadiah, over his revelation on Boko Haram.
