Over 1,200 members of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has declared support for Governor Rotimi Akeredolu ahead of the Ondo State Governorship Election.

Naija News reports that the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi had on Monday resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) just 7 weeks after initially joining the party from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Agboola’s defection from the PDP was confirmed in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Allen Sowore.

The statement noted that the decision to dump the PDP is based on the need to respond to his people’s call to contest the 2020 governorship election in Ondo State.

Agboola Ajayi, has been cleared to contest under the platform of the ZLP.

He will officially join the ZLP Tuesday, August 11.

But members of the ZLP led by executives from the wards and local government across the state said they have pulled out of the party structure and pitched their tents with Akeredolu.

The ZLP executives were received by the Ondo State Governor, Akeredolu.

Speaking on behalf of other members, a member of the House of Representatives representing Akoko North East/ North West Federal Constituency in the House of Reps, Hon Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said the achievements of Akeredolu have made his re-election a statewide project.

Tunji-Ojo said: “Governor Akeredolu good deeds are everywhere in terms of education, infrastructure, entrepreneurship, industrialisation, human capital development, service delivery, welfare of workers

“He is a key manager of resources and men. He has shown that excellence can be achieved and Ondo state can move forward.

“Governor Akeredolu has been tested by the people of this state and the people trust him. Regardless of party lines, he has impressed people in terms of excellent performance, and that is why leaders from ZLP have come to declare their support for the Governor”.

Also speaking, the State Organising Secretary of ZLP, Hon Femi Ikoyi, said they want to add significant value to the re-election of Akeredolu.

“We are the political engine of ZLP. Heard someone is coming to Akure. Well if he comes he will meet only the shell,” he said.

Governor Akeredolu assured the ZLP members that they would not regret joining forces with him.
