The Federal Government Has Spent ₦14 Billion On Student Feeding, N-Power And CCT In Jigawa State Alone

In the last four years, the federal government has spent ₦14 billion on the programs of the Ministry of Social Welfare under Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq in Jigawa State alone.

Plans include feeding primary school students, the N-Power youth program, and the distribution of ₦5,000 stipend per month. While N9.074bn has been spent on the ₦5,000-month program for the needy, ₦5.178 billion has been spent on the primary school feeding program from 2017 to date in Jigawa.

The leader of the Jigawa State program, Bala Chamo, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Dutse on Saturday, said N9.074 billion had been spent in nine local government areas. Chamo said everything was ready to pay for the newly recruited N-Power youths of the other 18 local government areas in the state.

According to Chamo, N9.074 billion was spent on salaries over 29 months for 728,367 youths from August / September 2017 to March-April 2020. Regarding student feeding, he said 6 billion had been spent on providing primary, secondary, class 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 classes in the state.

He said the state government and federal collaborated to provide this money. Mr Chamou said the federal government provided N5.178 billion to feed the students of class 1, 2 and 3 for a period of 168 days.

441,057 students were enrolled in grades 1, 2 and 3 from November 2017 to July 2019, Chamo added. The state program leader said later the state government help the federal government with  N878 million to feed the students of the class of the 4,5 and 6. He said 434,995 students were fed in the 27 local government areas of the state.
