Police Assaults KWASU SU President, Others Over Bribe- [Photo]

The Student Union President of Kwara State University, KWASU, Kozeem Olaitan Hanafy, has accused officers of the Nigeria Police Force of demanding for bribe along the Sagamu road in Ogun State.
According to Hanafy in a series of tweets on Friday, August 8, some police officers stopped them while travelling from Ikorodu to Ilorin, in Kwara State.
Hanafy took to the bird app today to report the incident to Nigerian Human Rights Activist, Segun Awosanya, and the police force how the officer at Sagamu stopped their vehicle to demand bribe after checking through their mobile phones.
According to him, the five of them in the same vehicle were checked and lastly him alone was restricted from leaving the scene after the officer checking them noticed he was using an iPhone.
The KWASU SU presidents said he showed the officer his student ID card to bail himself out of the awful experience but that the police officer showed no interest in checking the ID, as he was concerned about collecting money from him, even as far as trying to beat him with a stick.
Hanafy who shared a photo of the event alleged that the officer asked him for some money as a bribe to let him go, which he questioned why. He said the officer had accused him of being a scammer because of the expensive phone he was using.
Again Hanafy disclosed that a passenger who was recording the scenario was brutalised by the officer after he took note of him. He as well demanded him to pay money before he would let him go. Hanafy noted that he paid the officer N5000 before he let the passenger go.
“He won’t let anyone who uses iPhone leave without having collected money from them. A passenger tried to record the scenario and when the officer got to know, he beat him and asked him to pay before he can free him. It was after I paid him #5, 000 before he freed the guy,” Hanafy stated.
