The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government of ordering the police invasion of the Edo State Assembly.

Naija News reports that operatives of the Nigeria Police on Thursday took over the Edo State House of Assembly complex in Benin City.

The security officials stormed the complex while patrol vehicles were stationed around the area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Ayoola Ajala, led the operation, which is ongoing.

It was gathered that the move was to forestall an alleged planned attack on the facility.

Reacting in a post on Twitter, the PDP claimed that the federal government’s decision was due to the popularity of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

PDP wrote: “Breaking News! Irked by the growing popularity of @GovernorObaseki of Edo state and overwhelming acceptance by his people, the @OfficialAPCNg led Federal Government has mobilized @PoliceNG and other security agents to take over the state house of assembly. This is totally unacceptable.”
