State governments, including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has been directed to make compulsory the use of face masks in public places across the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s led government gave the order on Thursday, August 6 in a statement by Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19.

Speaking with newsmen during the press briefing, Mustapha urged state and local governments to liaise together towards sensitization of citizens on COVID-19, and as well put out measures for fast response to the dreaded disease.

He said, “President Buhari also asked the PTF to partner with states and local governments to improve community sensitization and engagement to step up response to the COVID-19 response.”

“He also encouraged state governments to collaborate with local government authorities to intensify necessary measures such as contact tracing, grassroots mobilization, and risk communication.”

“He also ordered that collaboration with other mandate groups at federal/state levels to harmonize the country’s COVID-19 response be strengthened on the short, medium, and long-term basis.”

Meanwhile, Pastor Chris Okotie, the senior pastor of the Household of God Church, has kicked against wearing face mask in the church.
