Facebook has deleted a post by the United States President, Donald Trump in which he claimed that children are virtually immune to the coronavirus disease.
According to Facebook, the US President’s submission in a video interview with Fox News about COVID-19 is a false claim.
Naija News reports this is not the first time Trump’s social media posts will be deleted or hidden but it was the first time Facebook took action to remove content posted by the president based on its Coronavirus-misinformation policy.
Explaining why Trump’s post was deleted on Facebook, Andy Stone, the spokesperson for Facebook said in a statement on Wednesday evening that “this video includes false claims that a group of people is immune from Covid-19 which is a violation of our policies around harmful COVID misinformation.”
Similarly, Twitter on Wednesday also said it had frozen Trump campaign account, @TeamTrump account because it posted the same interview excerpt.
Twitter claimed the @TeamTrump tweet “is in violation of the Twitter Rules on COVID-19 misinformation”.
“The account owner will be required to remove the Tweet before they can Tweet again.”
Reacting to the developments, Courtney Parella, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, said the President was “stating a fact that children are less susceptible to the coronavirus”
