The Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Francis Okiye has revealed that a sitting governor is plotting to forcefully take over the State Assembly.

Speaking on Wednesday during plenary, Okiye alleged that stakeholders in his party were set to use a fake mace to take over the Assembly.

While calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently call the governor to desist from the plot, the speaker said the plan is in cahoots with the former deputy speaker, Assemblyman Yekini Idaiye, who recently declared support for the candidate of the APC.

Okiye pointed out that Edo State was already heated by the high political tension from the electioneering campaigns ahead of the guber polls.

“Their planned action is akin to lighting a match in an already tensed political environment. We call on Edo people to rise against this planned plot to subvert their will using external forces,” he said.

Naija News had earlier reported that the Assembly impeached Deputy Speaker, Yekini Idiaye.

He was impeached on Wednesday during a plenary session of the Assembly in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

The impeachment of the Edo Deputy Speaker is coming a month and few days to the Edo 2020 election slated for September 19.
