1. Boko Haram: Nigeria Governors Take Action After Attack On Zulum

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has said it would be meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari over the rising insecurity in Nigeria.

The NGF made this known while reacting to the recent attack on Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State by suspected members of Boko Haram.

In the letter signed by Kayode Fayemi, Ekiti state governor and NGF chairman, the governors said the recent attack shows how vulnerable Nigeria has become.

2. WAEC: FG Takes Fresh Decision On Opening Unity Schools For SS3 Students

The federal government of Nigeria has approved the resumption of SS3 students in the 104 unity schools across the country as from Tuesday.

This was confirmed on Monday by the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba in a statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Goong.

According to the statement, the decision is coming after a virtual meeting with Commissioners of Education in the 36 States and other stakeholders.

3. COVID-19: Jigawa Gov Directs All Civil Servants To Return To Work

Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State has issued an order that all civil servants from all grades in the state should return back to their duty posts.

The governor made the declaration after 16 days the state last recorded a single case of the dreaded Coronavirus disease.

Abubakar while speaking with reporters at the State Government House in Dutse on Monday, August 3, directed workers in the state to return to work as from August 4, and with total compliance with the COVID-19 preventive measures which include social distance, wearing a face mask and personal hygiene.

4. NDDC Contracts: Calm Down – Ibori Replies Akpabio

Former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori, on Monday denied receiving any contract from the Nigeria Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

Naija News reports that the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, had linked former governors of Delta State, James Ibori and Emmanuel Uduaghan, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, and Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, among others as beneficiaries of NDDC contracts.

5. Edo Election: Deputy Speaker, 4 Others Throw Support For APC’s Ize-Iyamu

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has received a boost in the contest against the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki.

This is as the Edo State House of Assembly Deputy Speaker, Honourable Yekini Idiaye, and other four lawmakers in the state declared their support for the APC candidate.

6. Shoprite Denies Plan To Exit Nigeria

ShopRite Nigeria on Monday denied reports making the rounds that it intends to close shop in Nigeria.

Naija News reports that social media had been awash with reports that one of Africa’s largest retailers company announced the formal process to stop all its operation in Nigeria.

But in a telephone conversation with Vanguard, the Country Director for Chastex Consult, Ini Archibong, said Shoprite is not leaving Nigeria.

He said: “We have only just opened to Nigerian investors which we have also been talking to just before now. We are not leaving, who leaves over a $30billion investment and close shop? It doesn’t sound right.

“We have only just given this opportunity to Nigeria investors to come in and also help drive our expansion plan in Nigeria. So we are not leaving.

7. APC: We Are Ready To Receive Atiku, Saraki, Others, If….

The All Progressives Congress has declare that it is ready to welcome back its members who defected to other political parties in the past.

The party said this while reacting to the recent decision by some high profile politicians to return to the APC.

In its reaction to the developments, the ruling party in a statement by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary Yekini Nabena noted that their door is open to all former members who left for one reason or the other to stage a return.

8. Ekiti Workers Call Off 3 Days Warning Strike

Ekiti State civil servants have backtracked on their three-day warning strike barely 12 hours after it kick-started.

Naija News understands that Governor Kayode Fayemi had summoned the meeting of labour leaders in the state shortly after the organized Labour issued the strike notice, to press home demands relating to the payment of unpaid benefits.

9. APC Tells PDP To Account For $460m CCTV, $2bn China Loan

The All Progressives Congress has reacted to the statement released by the media office of the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party during the 2019 general election, Atiku Abubakar, describing the sovereign immunity clause embedded in Nigeria’s loan agreements with China was unresearched, unintelligent and pedestrian.

The ruling party reacted on Monday in a statement released through its spokesperson, Yekini Nabena.

Nabena in the statement asked PDP to account for $460m CCTV, and another $2bn China loan.

10. Wike Reveals Why He Gave Cars To Judges

Governor Nyesom Wike, of Rivers State, has noted that he gave cars to judges as part of the measure to fight against corruption.

The Rivers State Governor stated this during the presentation of the cars on Monday in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Wike called on the judges to rededicate themselves to their duties and shun acts of corruption.
