Borno No Longer Safe – Shehu Reacts To Boko Haram Attack On Zulum

Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Elkanemi, The Shehu of Borno, has lamented the attack on Governor Babagana Zulum, saying that citizens of Borno State are no longer safe.

Naija News reports that gunmen suspected to be members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect on Wednesday attacked the convoy of Babagana Zulum in Baga Town.

The governor was reportedly on his way to visit some Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in the northern part of Borno when his convoy was attacked.

The attack happened near Monguno while en route to distribute food to displaced residents. Monguno and Baga axis of Borno has been totally cut off from mobile phone services.

Nobody was injured during the attack and the governor safely returned to Maiduguri the state capital.

Speaking during a traditional Sallah homage to the Governor at the Government House, Maiduguri, the Shehu said the issue of Boko Haram is getting worse.

He said: “Your Excellency, we are not happy about what has happened in Baga the other time, it is a very unfortunate and great pity.

“If the convoy of the whole Chief Security Officer of the state will be attacked, then wallahi nobody is safe, because he is the number one citizen of the state, he is the Chief Security Officer of the State.

“If a convoy of such highly placed person in the State will be attacked, I repeat, nobody is safe. The matter is getting worse, I urge everyone to raise up our hands to seek Allah’s intervention.”

Coronavirus and Trees

Also speaking on COVID-19, Alhaji Elkanemi urged people of the state to continue to adhere strictly to all preventive protocols advocated by health experts.

He also called for the reintroduction of tree planting which was a regular practice in the past.
