Learn From Buhari, Jonathan, Others' Mistakes - Sanusi Tells Tinubu

Former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, today July 31, 2020, clocked 59-years of age.

The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria was on March 9, 2020, dethroned as the Emir of Kano by the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje‘s led administration, Naija News recalls.

Naija News understands that Sanusi who became the 14th Emir of Kano from the Fulani Sullubawa clan emerged on the exalted throne on 8 June 2014, following the death of his grand-uncle, Ado Bayero.

A few days ago, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to set aside a suit filed by Sanusi, over his banishment from Kano State.

According to the police IG, the court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the fundament rights enforcement suit.

the IGP argued that the violation of the rights complained by the banished emir followed his dethronement which happened in Kano. Adamu said that was supposed to be the appropriate location for the former CBN governor to have filed the suit and not Abuja.

He said; “The alleged infringement of the fundamental right of the applicant in this suit (Sanusi) is only ancillary to the dethronement of the applicant as the Emir of Kano, which is a matter within the jurisdiction of the High Court of a state.”

“It is crystal clear from all the processes filed by the applicant that the facts that gave rise to this case arose from Kano State, where the applicant was dethroned as the Emir and flown to Abuja en route Nasarawa State. It is our submission that coming into Abuja was only as a mere passage to their actual destination, which is Nasarawa State, and as such, Abuja cannot, by any stretch of reasoning, be said to be the place where the infringement occurred.”

However, celebrating with Sanusi on his birthday, Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, took to his Twitter handle today to prayed God for long days and good health on the deposed emir.

He tweeted, “Happy 59th birthday to His Highness, Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 14th Emir of Kano. A teacher and a leader. May God grant him long days and good health.”
