El-Rufai Reveals ‘Real’ Cause Of Southern-Kaduna Killings And Those Responsible

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has noted that though insecurity challenges is not peculiar to Kaduna, what happens in Kaduna State gains more attention due to the ethnic and religious links.

The Governor who acknowledged the unique nature of security challenges in his own state, however, noted that all hands must be on deck to overcome the challenges.

El-Rufai gave the explanation and charge when he appeared on a Channels Television programme.

He said more attention is paid to security challenges in Kaduna though other parts of the country, including the Northeast and Northwest, have issues of insecurity.

He also claimed bandits are responsible for the insecurity in Kaduna State.

In his words: “I think the issue is not just in Kaduna State. We have security challenges all across the Northeast and Northwest.

“But I think what makes Kaduna’s case situation unique and headline-grabbing is because of the injection of religious and ethnic connotations to the attacks and the clashes between the various ethnic groups.

“Since Kaduna has a long history of ethno-religious intolerance, every criminal situation in the Northwest is given ethnic and religious connotation.

“That complicates things more difficult to resolve because religion, ethnicity and politics are identity issues.

“They are very emotive and people tend to lose their calm and their heads in situations like this. That’s what complicates the issues.”

It will be recalled the Inspector-General of Police recently ordered that the curfew imposed on troubled areas of the state must be enfced as parts of efforts to return normalcy to affected areas.
