Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has vowed not to respond to provocations from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He stated this on Thursday in Benin after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders’ meeting.

Naija News reports that the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum and governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, attended the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, the Chairman Edo PDP campaign organization, Chief Dan Orbih, amongst others.

Speaking at the meeting, Obaseki also condemned the attacks on PDP supporters in front of Oba of Benin palace.

The Edo governor vowed to ensure that the perpetrators faced the law.

He warned that his administration was not weak in responding to political violence.

“I believe my powers should be used responsibly, particularly in the face of provocation, and especially what the other party did in the palace by attacking our supporters in an attempt to provoke me,” Obaseki said.

On the governorship race, Obaseki declared: “If we have an election today in the state, PDP will win by 75 per cent. PDP has always won every national election in Edo.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed September 19 for the Edo Governorship election.

Obaseki will go up against Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC.
