Dr Fauci Gives Important Advice Amid Evidence Coronavirus Can Get Into Eyes

Dr Anthony Fauci, an American physician and immunologist, says people should wear goggles for complete protection from Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Naija News reports that Dr Fauci gave the advice amidst evidence that the virus can enter the body through any mucosal surface – including the mouth, nose or eyes with reports that over 16 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally, with over 600,000 people dying from the virus.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says Coronavirus is primarily contagious through respiratory droplets expelled when people cough or sneeze, but growing evidence suggests that droplets from just regular speaking or breathing may be able to spread the disease too.

‘If you have goggles or an eye shield, you should use it,’ Dr Fauci told ABC News in an Instagram Live interview.

“If you really want perfect protection [you need protection] of your mucosal surfaces – you mucosal surfaces in your mouth, your nose, but also in your eyes,’ Dr Fauci said.

‘Theoretically, you should protect all the mucosal surfaces, so if you have goggles or an eye shield, you should use it,’ the United States’ top infectious disease expert said.
