Nigerians who are 60 years of age and above have been advised by the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) to avoid going to the mosque during the Sallah celebrations.

In a tweet on Wednesday, the NCDC advised that Nigerians, irrespective of age, who are sick or have any underlying condition, should take responsibility while the Muslims celebrate in order to stay safe from contracting the coronavirus.

The NCDC said COVID -19 may cause severe complications in the elderly and people with underlying health conditions, adding that the number of cases in the country keeps increasing daily as the country currently has 41,804 confirmed infections.

However, the centre has always maintained that the virus spreads easily from person to person and has urged Nigerians to stay safe by wearing a face mask.

The NCDC also advised on observing physical distancing and washing of hands frequently in this festive period.
