Yorubas Will Not Participate In 2023 Election Unless Nigeria Is Restructured – South-West Group

The group warns that it would be forced to mobilize Yorubas not to take part in the coming election “until the goal of restructuring or self-determination is attained”.
Naija News understands that the Yoruba Summit Group had centred its meeting on insecurity, COVID-19 pandemic fight, economy, resignations from the military, insurgency war, kidnapping, banditry, unemployment, corruption, among others.
It warned President Buhari that “any attempt to go ahead with elections in 2023 without addressing the issue of restructuring would spell doom for Nigeria,” noting that the nation is veering off precariously into a precipice.
The meeting which has in attendance the presence of prominent elders and leaders such as Ayo Fasoranti, Ayo Adebanjo, Banji Akintoye, Gani Adams, Segun Mimko, Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu, Yinka Odumakin, Tunji Alapini, Supo Shonibare, and many others condemned how the government handled the killing of Nigeria’s first female combat pilot, Tolulope Arotile.
According to them, “the authorities did not imagine that so much noise would be made, and so many questions would be asked. Her death was treated with levity, just as many other cases. The lives of Nigerians do not seem to matter anymore.” The South-West group demanded a thorough investigation by an inclusive panel of experts.
The group threw its support on the call for the president to sack Service Chiefs, most especially those who have failed in serving the country in the discharge of their duty, providing security, leadership and delivery of forthrightness.
They further expressed their concern over issuing of licenses for gold prospecting in Yorubaland, noting the dangers of banditry, kidnapping and sundry criminalities. The South-West leaders again declared its backing for the establishment of Amotekun security network in the region, urged all stakeholders to ensure the success of the security outfit.
The statement added, “Notwithstanding the interests of some in our midst, it would be presumptuous to assume that the educated Yoruba Nation will dive headlong into the 2023 elections, when the Military, Paramilitary, INEC, Judiciary, have been rigged and appropriated by a single minority.”
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party National Chairman, Uche Secondus, on Friday, lamented that Nigeria has become a country without a government.
The PDP leader stated this during a media briefing at the party’s National Secretariat, Abuja on Friday.
