Eyitayo Jegede Withdraws From 2024 Ondo Governorship Race

Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) on Wednesday, emerged the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2020 governorship election in Ondo State.

He defeated other candidates including Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi to pick the PDP ticket for the October 10, 2020 governorship election.

As earlier reported by Naija News, Jegede polled 888 votes to defeat Agboola Ajayi, the Ondo Deputy Governor, who gathered 657 votes.

Eddy Olafeso, a former south-west chairman of the party, came a distant third with 175 votes.

Another aspirant, Bode Ayorinde, scored 95 votes while Banji Okunomo, polled 90 votes and Boluwaji Kunlere, 33 votes; Olusola Ebiseni, 29 votes, and Godday Erewa had 14 votes.

The Ondo PDP Primary election took place at The Dome in Akure, the state capital.

1. Eyitayo Jegede is a former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of Ondo state.

2. He is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

3. Jegede was born to the family of late Chief Johnson Bosede, the Odopetu of Isinkan, Akure, and Mrs C.O Jegede (née Asokeji) from Ipele town, near Owo in Ondo State, Nigeria.

4. He was also the 2016 PDP Gubernatorial Candidate in Ondo State.

5. He studied law at the University of Lagos. After completing his Higher Education, he was posted to Yola, Adamawa State for his National Youth Service Corps where he started his career as a legal practitioner.

6. He attended the Nigeria Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.

7. He rose to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in just about 10 years after he started practicing.

8. On Wednesday, July 22, he emerged the PDP flagbearer to contest the 2020 governorship election in Ondo State.
