Sowore Set To Be Re-Arrested, See Why

There are indications that Omoyele Sowore, the convener of #RevolutionNow Movement and publisher of SaharaReporters is set to be re-arrested.

Naija News understands that the Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Mohammed Adamu, has been petitioned by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, over a “malicious and defamatory” report against him, which was published on SaharaReporters.com owned by Sowore.

This online news platform recalls that Sowore’s news medium had published a report accusing the Attorney General of the Federation of corruption. In another report, SaharaReporters accused Malami of building a mansion worth N100m for his Abdulaziz.

“The building was discovered to have been erected in only under two months in readiness for Abdulaziz and his new bride, Khadija Danbatta, to move in to after the second leg of their lavish wedding on Saturday (today). The sprawling edifice is located in the choice neighbourhood of Gesse Phase II in Birnin Kebbi, capital of Kebbi State,” the report which was published last Saturday read.

Displeased with the reports, Malami had threatened to sue SaharaReporters in a statement released by his spokesperson, Umar Gwandu. The minister of Justice said the reports have “caused him considerable distress, psychological trauma and anxiety.”

“Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, vowed to take legal action against Sahara Reporters on account of defamatory publications made against him.

“Malami said, the consequence of the criminal defamation published by Sahara Reporters, has subjected him to considerable distress, psychological trauma, anxiety and greatly injured his character and reputation, which is capable of lowering his estimation in the eyes of right-thinking persons in the society.

“A senior lawyer has already been briefed to deal with the matter as may be appropriate, in the event of failure to retract the publication in question and offer the requested apology within the stipulated time,” the statement had said.

However, days after the statement from Malami’s camp, SaharaReporters has revealed that its publisher is set to be arrested. SaharaReporters made the claim in a post on the micro-blogging site, Twitter on Friday.

The platform tweeted: “FLASH: Attorney General, @MalamiSAN plotting with IGP of @PoliceNG to get @YeleSowore arrested over reports exposing his multibillion naira corruption as exposed by @SaharaReporters.”

Meanwhile, Naija News recalls that the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Sowore last year and later released him after spending 124 days in detention. Sowore’s release at the time followed a court ruling ordering the secret police to release the former Presidential candidate in the next 24 hours.
