A storm of reactions by Nigerians has greeted the statement by Bishop David Oyedepo, the General Overseer of Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners Chapel, that “prosperity is impossible without tithing.”
Naija News had reported earlier that the Winners Chapel General Overseer said on Thursday day tithing is an inescapable covenant obligation hence prosperity not just wealth is impossible without tithing.
This online news platform understands that Bishop Oyedepo said those who are not paying tithe are under a “financial curse” because “tithing is an inescapable covenant obligation.”
“Tithing is an inescapable covenant obligation. Prosperity not just wealth is impossible without tithing because when you’re not paying your tithe, you’re under a financial curse,” Bishop Oyedepo wrote on the micro-blogging site.

Displeased with the statement, Nigerians took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter, to attack Bishop Oyedepo.
Naija News captured some of the reactions below…
This is NOT true—and no amount of saying it or lacing it with silent threats will make it true.
Jesus fulfilled the law & gave a new covenant. If tithing is an inescapable covenant obligation, so is circumcision.
Let’s not even go into the fact that Yahweh’s Sabbath is Saturday https://t.co/88JSdaGysz

I hate it when pastors lie unprovoked.
You're not under any financial curse if you don't tithe.
The world's wealthiest 1% control more than half of the world's wealth without tithing and no amount of tithing will put you in their tax bracket. https://t.co/T1gCJE8Dz8

Tithing is fine but saying it is impossible to prosper because of it? Naa. Richest men in the world are not even Christians. Muslims prosper too without tithing. That’s why the church breed poorer people cos they prefer to go to church daily before work n still pray to prosper https://t.co/lvxT2eIEq4

You spend more time posting teachings on tithing than any other message. 2days ago, same message. 4 days ago, same message.
Please, preach more on the gospel. People need God now more than ever in these last days.
God’s love surpasses material things or money money money.

God won’t curse you for not tithing.
Your financial growth is not tied to tithing.
You give because you’ve been blessed, you don’t give to be blessed.
Jesus didn’t die for your finances.

Pentecostal pastors/bishops, please leave tithing and sowing of seed for now, and preach salvation, repentence and virtue. Sacrifice those money on the alter of societal repair. You can't be preaching tithing in a corrupt and evil society. Our country needs urgent resuscitation.

This topic of tithing is very funny, because your greedy pastor who want you to come and give him money in form of tithe so that he can buy fuel for his private Jet will never show you this part of the Bible.
If you must obey this law do it right ✌️ pic.twitter.com/0IiHSgRfWY

Tithing cannot create wealth! Wealth creation occurs when you deploy capital to create value. When X gives 1/10 of his earnings to your church, there’s no production or investment, thus he has not created value, but only enriched you. Tithing is a church sponsored ponzi scheme. https://t.co/NTcmbPdxiF
