National Assembly Commission Takes Strong Action Against Clerk Who Refused To Be Sacked

The National Assembly Service Commission has told the embattled clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Mohammed Sani-Omolori that he can’t dictate to the commission.

The clerk was also issued a query for rejecting the commission’s directive which directed him and over 100 other staff members to proceed on retirement.

Naija News recalls the National Assembly Service Commission had on Tuesday, sacked Omolori and 149 other members of staff who had spent 35 years in service or has attained the age of 60.

However, Omolori rejected the directive of the commission and challenged their powers to sack him, saying the 8th assembly had adjusted the rules guiding the engagement and disengagement of staff by the commission.

He argued that the 8th assembly had extended his tenure.

Reacting to Omolori’s move, this online medium understands the National Assembly Service Commission has issued a query dated 16th July to Sani-Omolori over his refusal to proceed on retirement.

The query was signed by Ahmed Amshi, the commission’s chairman, and gave Omolori 24 hours to respond.

“The attention of the National Assembly Service Commission was drawn to a press release titled ‘Retirement Age for Staff of the National Assembly Service is 40 years of Service or 65 Years of Age whichever comes first’ dated 15th July, 2020 and signed by M.A Sani-Omolori, clerk of the national assembly,” Amshi said.

“As you are very much aware, the clerk of the national assembly is an employee of the National Assembly Service Commission, vide section 6(1) b of the National Assembly Service Act 2014 (as amended).

“The clerk of the national assembly has no authority whatsoever to dictate anything to the commission. Your press release is considered by the commission as gross insubordination to a constituted authority.

“You are by this letter, requested to explain to the commission within 24 hours as to why disciplinary action will not be taken against you as per the provision of 6(2) b of the National Assembly Service Act 2014 (as amended).”
