The federal government through its apex bank has placed a ban on the importation of maize in Nigeria.

The Central bank of Nigeria gave the directive in one of the publications made available to Naija News through its director in charge of trade and exchange Department, Dr O.S Nnaji,

The publication directed all authorised dealers to immediately discontinue the processing of Forms for maize/corn importation into the country.

part of the statement  by the CBN stated :

“As part of efforts by the Central Bank of Nigeria to increase local production, stimulate a rapid economic recovery, safeguard rural livelihoods, and increase jobs which were lost as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Authorised Dealers are hereby directed to discontinue the processing of Forms M for the importation of Maize/Corn with immediate effect. 

The bank also stated that the ban has four main objectives which are to increase local production of maize in Nigeria, To stimulate a rapid economic recovery To safeguard rural livelihoods and increase job employment for many Nigerian youths.

The Ban on maize importation is latest list of crop product that has been banned by the federal government of Nigeria to be imported into the country.
