Train services would resume across the country after safety measures have been put in place by the Federal Ministry of Transport, the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 has said.

Naija News reports the National Coordinator of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu, made this statement on Monday during the ongoing task force briefing in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

This is coming after the federal government at the announcement of the new phase of the eased lockdown, lifted a restriction on interstate movements and subsequently domestic flights

Speaking today, Aliyu said: “This will be determined by the federal ministry of transport. Few days before we went into the current phase of eased lockdown we met with the minister of transport and minister of state. We’ve asked them to put in place the necessary operational guidelines similar to what the aviation sector has done to enable them start.

“So the ball is in their court, so when they get back to us and tell us that they’re ready, then we will have no issues in terms of signing them off.”
